Carolyn J. Monroe age 79, 4518 North S.R. 1 Pennville died early Friday morning at Bluffton Regional Medical Center . She was born in Geneva January 6, 1931 the daughter of Jesse and Gertrude (Septer) Bailey. She was married November 15, 1997 to Richard Monroe who survives. She was a homemaker and had worked for E.P. Graphics in Berne . She was a member of the Pennville Legion Aux., attended Pennville United Methodist Church and had taught Sunday school at Bryant Wesleyan Church .
Surviving are her husband Richard, one son Michael A. Masters of Redkey, two daughters Mrs. Jon (Brenda) Smith of Monroe and Mrs. Tom (Melinda) Sprunger of Monroe, one step-son Doug Monroe of Portland and one step-daughter Mrs. Gary (Lesa) Kirby of Portland, four sisters Margaret Minch of Bryant, Maxine Curtis of Findlay, Ohio, Irene Eversol of Fort Wayne and Ruth Leichty of Cape Coral, Fl. Six grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and 3 step-great grandchildren
Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 A.M. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Alexander P. Soultz presiding. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Pennville. Theresa Meyer age 43, 109 North Hickory Court Portland died Tuesday morning in Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie . She was born in Fort Wayne November 2, 1966 the daughter of Robert and Margaret June (Lawhorn) Meyer Sr. She had worked for International Paper.
Surviving are a daughter Jessica Meyer of Portland , Two brothers Richard Meyer of Berne and Robert Meyer of Portland and one sister Karen Meyer of Portland .

John S. Esparza age 68, 400 East Warren Street Lot 5 Celina , Ohio and former Portland resident passed away Tuesday morning in Mercer County Community Hospital . He was born May 23, 1941 in Laredo , Texas the son of Silvestre and Magdalena (Torres) Esparza. He was married to Edna Hinshaw in 1964 and she died in 1969. He later married Lois Theurer on January 22, 1972 and she survives. He was retired in 2000 from Indiana Glass. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, Portland eagles Lodge, Portland Moose Lodge and Local Union 501.
Surviving are his wife Lois, one son Kevin Esparza of Indianapolis , one daughter Mrs. Brian (Kim) Hebble of Celina, two step-daughters Mrs. Steve (Sherri) Heileman of Franklin, TN. and Mrs. Justin (Kristin) Vargas of Springhill, TN. Three brothers Benito Esparza of Pennville, David Esparza of Portland and Reuben Vela of Portland, Eight sisters Mrs. David (Margarita) Vasquez of Portland, Mrs. John (Beatrice) Riojas of Portland, Mrs. Pat (Mary) Martinez of Redkey, Mrs. Isabel (Jane) Costillo of Portland, Mrs. Jose (Yolanda) Nunez of Decatur, Mrs. George (Irma) Drumm of Portland, Mrs. Rick (Josephine) Norman of Decatur and Mrs. Randy (Alisia) Crouse of Portland Twelve grandchildren and one great grandson. He was preceded in death by a sister Minerva Tingley.
Funeral services will be Friday at 10:00 A.M. in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portland with Fr. Robert Moran presiding. Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery . Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 – 8:00 P.M. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home. Dema L. Janak age 98, 1208 Wayside Place Portland died Tuesday at Persimmon Ridge Healthcare. She was born in Bogard , Missouri January 26, 1912 the daughter of Claude and Rebecca (Wysong) Harper. She was married May 18, 1940 to John Janak and he died September 3, 1984. She was an administrative assistant for Hinsdale Public Schools in Hinsdale , Illinois . She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Widow to Widow Club and Jay County Hospital Aux.
Surviving are one son John Janak of Redkey and one daughter Mrs. Nicholas (Judy) Napoli of Denver, Colorado Six grandchildren and nine great grandsons

Ambrelle Louise Hunt was stillborn Saturday at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie . She is the daughter of David Michael and Jennifer Nicole (Wenk) Hunt. She is survived by a two brothers Mahkiah and Elijiah Hunt and one sister Krishna Hunt. Paternal grandparents Mike Hunt (wife:Pam) of Portland and Maria Spain of Portland , Maternal grandparents Donna Corle of Portland and Mike Wenk of Ft. Wayne, Paternal great grandparents Don Spain of Muncie and Diane Zuokqwahyah of Muncie, Maternal great grandparents Louise Corle of Portland and Bev Wenk of Fort Wayne, several nieces and nephews

Robert W. Belt age 75, 401 Canterbury Apartments #16, Portland passed away Friday evening in the Jay County Hospital E.R. following a sudden illness. He was born in Marion , Ohio March 13, 1934 the son of John and Beatrice Marie (O’Connell) Belt. He was married June 22, 1996 to Madonna Younger who survives. He was retired from Power and Shovel in Marion , Ohio . He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Redkey.
Surviving are his wife Madonna, Two sons Stanley Murrell of Bryan, Ohio and Rev. Mike Murrell of Martinsville , IN. One daughter Marsha Thomas of Marion, Ohio, Four brothers Larry Belt of Knoxville, TN., Harold Belt of Canal Winchester, Ohio, Charles Belt of Fountain Hills, AZ. and Paul Belt of Alida, Ohio, Two sisters Margaret Moore and Lee VanVorrhis both of Marion, Ohio Five grandchildren and five great grandchildren

Dorothy Ross age 91, 301 Green Meadows Drive Apt. 225 Greenfield, Indiana passed away Tuesday at her residence. She was born in Jay County June 23, 1918 the daughter of Edward and Hazel Marie (Thomas) Stout. She was married December 24, 1935 to Howard Ross and he died January 28, 2000. She was a homemaker and member of the Bradley United Methodist Church .
Surviving are one son Jack Ross of Charlottesville , Indiana and one daughter Karen Schmidt of Tyler , Texas , One sister Mary Louise Brigner of Florida Three grandchildren and four great grandchildren
Funeral services will be Saturday at 12:30 P.M. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Wade Compton presiding. Burial will be in the Green Park Cemetery . Joyce A. Beck age 70, 902 West Race Street Portland died Saturday in the Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne . She was born in Jay County August 25, 1939 the daughter of George and Mildred (Shoemaker) Resur. She was married June 17, 1961 to Jerry Beck and he died January 2, 2003. She was a retired elementary school teacher having taught in the Jay School Corp. She also taught mallet instruments at Taylor University . She was an active and life long member of the Portland Friends Church having been the organist for over fifty years. She was a 1957 Portland High School graduate, member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association, Jay County Retired teachers Association, Tri Kappa Sorority, Kappa Delta Pi Sorority, Phi Gamma Mu Sorority, Delta Pi Epsilon Sorority and Jay County Hospital Aux.
Surviving are two daughters Mrs. Lew (Sherri) McKibben of Portland and Mrs. Scott (Sherilyn) Garrison of Clarksville, TN. Four grandchildren
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastors Doug Shoemaker and Mike Harris presiding. Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery .
