Mrs. Donna Wilkinson – Murley age 84, of Lake Wales , Florida died Wednesday January 20, 2010 at her home. She was born January 29, 1925 in Portland and moved to Lake Wales fifty six years ago. She was a 1946 graduate of Ball state University and retired after thirty three years in education. She was a fifth grade teacher at Polk Avenue Elementary School, earned her master’s degree from University of South Florida and became the schools librarian. She finished her career at Janie Howard Wilson Elementary. She had been very active in the Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher’s Sorority. She had over five thousand volunteer hours at Lake Wales Medical Center . She was a member of First United Methodist church of Lake Wales .
Surviving are her husband Robert G. Murley, son Craig E. Wilkinson and wife Roselle of Marietta, Ga., Daughter in law Nancy Wilkinson of Elon, N.C., step-daughters Joanne Murley of Newington, Conn. And Karen Murley – Kells of Montague Center, Mass. Four grandchildren , Sister JoElla Evans Preceded in death by her first husband James E. Wilkinson.
Private graveside services will be held with burial in the Green Park Cemetery . Memorials can be made to the choice of the donor. Baird-Freeman Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements.

Harry L. Steen age 79, 309 North Meridian Street Bryant , Indiana passed away Friday morning in the Jay County Hospital . He was born in Portland December 16, 1930 the son of Albert and Jessie (Lawson) Steen. He was married to Alda Mae Smith who died in 2008. He had worked for Sheller-Globe in Portland .
Surviving are one son Leslie Steen of Bryant, one brother Dwain Steen of Albany, two sisters Harriett Spears of Portland and Gloria Holcomb of Pennville. Three grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Vivian Brooks Studebaker age 86, 6612 East Jackson Street Muncie passed away Tuesday at Liberty Village in Muncie. She was born in Jefferson Twp. Jay County the daughter of Harold and Mary (Bickner) Brooks. She was married to Arthur Studebaker and he died November 25, 1988. She was a payroll processor for Sinclair College, a legal secretary and also worked for Indiana and Ohio Bell Telephone Co. She graduated from Gov. I.P. Gray High School and attended Sinclair College. She was an active member of the D.A.R. and Past President of Sierra County Genealogical Society in Truth or Consequences, N.M., Life member of the V.F.W. in Richmond. She loved to travel, listen to music, enjoyed nature and study genealogy.
Surviving are a son Brian Babbitt (wife Carol) of Marion, Iowa and three grandchildren She was preceded in death by a son Atys Jerald Babbitt and a sister Delight Cramer.
Funeral services will be Friday at 1:00 P.M. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with burial in the Claycomb Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 12:00 – 1:00 P.M. Memorials can be made to the choice of the donor. CLICK HERE TO PRINT
Margaret Rouch age 92, former resident of 116 Floral Ave. Portland passed away early Friday morning in Persimmon Ridge Healthcare. She was born in Koskiusko County October 14, 1917 the daughter of Rev. Roy and Beryl (Vaughn) Brown. She was married August 15, 1937 to Russel Rouch and he died June 24, 1997. She had worked for Reitenour Service Station, Graphic Printing and I.R.C. & D. Motor Freight where she retired. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and Wesleyan Circle .
Surviving are two sons Jack Rouch of Portland and Randy Rouch of Seminole, Fl., One daughter Mrs. Byron (Alice) Bond of Angola, Four sisters Helen Brown of Toledo, Beth Radvanji of Tennessee, Bette Smith of Ft. Myers, Fl. and Karen Edmundson of New Lebanon, Ohio Five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren
Funeral services will be Sunday at 3:00 P.M. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery following cremation. Visitation will be Sunday from 12:00 – 3:00 P.M. Memorials can be made to the Jay County Heart Fund or Asbury United Methodist Church.

Robert Alan Mahon age 56, 8587 East 100 North Dunkirk passed away Sunday evening at the I.U. Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was born in Portland April 20, 1953 the son of George Mahon and Patricia Middaugh. He was married November 2, 1991 to Diane Bullard who survives. He was a member of Carpenters Union 1016 and owned and operated Mahon Construction, LLC. He was a former Kerr Glass employee and member of Bethel United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife Diane, His father George Mahon (wife: Kay) of Dunkirk and mother Patricia Armstrong of Portland. Five daughters Melissa Grimes (husband: Brian) of Portland, Dana Aquino Coulter (husband: Josh) of Carmel, Sara Mahon of Carmel, Alana Light (husband: Rhett) of Hartford City and Brandy Lester (husband: Garret) of Modoc, One brother Randy Mahon of Muncie and two sisters Teresa Mahon and Dedra Mahon both of Dunkirk. Ten Grandchildren Cody and Corey Bellis, Parker and Landon Grimes, Kaid Aquino, Taylor, Haylee and Raygan Light, Rowan Mahon and Corbin Lester.
Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 A.M. in the Bethel United Methodist Church with Pastor Randy Davis presiding. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Pennville. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home and Friday from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. at the church. Paul J. High age 53, 1177 West Arch Street Portland passed away Friday evening in the Jay County Hospital . He was born in Van Wert , Ohio March 13, 1956 the son of Marvin and Dorothy (Long) High. He had worked for Marsh Supermarkets and was a handyman and 1974 Portland High School graduate.
Surviving are his mother Dorothy High of Portland, Two brothers Tim High of Portland and Kevin High of Toledo, one sister Joyce Lake of Portland and he was preceded in death by a twin sister Susa Kay.

Audrey G. Bell age 83, 110 Pilgrim Drive Portland and former Pennville resident passed away Thursday in Persimmon Ridge Healthcare. She was born in Adams County April 15, 1926 the daughter of Fred and Nellie (Bricker) Brewster. She was married October 27, 1945 to W. Robert Bell and he died June 30, 2003. She was a secretary for 3-M Corporation. She was a member of the Pennville United Methodist Church .
Surviving are one son Robert G. Bell of Portland , One daughter Mrs. Richard (Nancy) Webb of Farmland, Two brothers Fred Brewster of Bellfountain and Darell “Pete” Brewster of Peculiar, Mo. Four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Betty Heniscey age 87, 504 East Water Street Portland passed away Thursday evening in the Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie . She was born in Jay County August 18, 1922 the daughter of Solomon Wesley and Cora May (Bruner) Heniscey. She had worked for the civil service and was a custodian and Sunday school teacher for many years at Asbury United Methodist Church . She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church for 75 years.
Surviving are one sister Catherine Bennett of Portland and two nieces Mrs. Gail (Becci) Green and Mrs. Bill ( Alice ) Whitacre both of Portland and several great nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be Monday at 7:00 P.M. in the Asbury United Methodist Church with Pastors Steve Arnold and Greg Rittenhouse presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Monday and burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery . Memorials can be made to Asbury United Methodist Church . Baird-Freeman Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements.
