Esther I. Gaskill age 78, 722 East High Street Portland died Tuesday in Persimmon Ridge Healthcare in Portland . She was born in Wells County September 4, 1931 the daughter of Corda and Ersa (Hodson) Maddox. She was married in 1949 to Joseph P. Gaskill who survives. She was retired from C.T.S. in Berne . She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving are her husband Joe, Two sons Joseph Jr. Gaskill of Portland and Richard “Dick” Gaskill of Salamonia and one daughter Jane Irene Platz of Constantine , Michigan , one sister Anna Strong of Ft. Wayne , eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren
Funeral services will be Friday at 2:00 P.M. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Dave McClellan presiding. Burial will follow in the Green Park Cemetery . Michael Evan Wittwer age 40, 1405 North 200 West Portland passed away Monday evening at his residence following an extended illness. He was born in Bluffton March 10, 1970 the son of Stanley and Carolyn (Hough) Wittwer. He was married September 19, 2003 to Sally Coy who survives. He worked for F.C.C. in Portland and was a 1989 South Adams High School graduate.
Surviving are his wife Sally, his father Stanley Wittwer of Bryant, one son Aaron Wittwer of Portland , step-daughter Holly Ritchey of Portland and one sister Jennifer Hartley of Portland .

Jack B. Steveson age 74, 19061 McGuire Ridge Road Laurel , Indiana died Thursday evening in the V.A. Hospital in Indianapolis . He was born in Piqua , Ohio September 15, 1935 the son of Jesse and Mary (Stem) Steveson. He was married May 15, 1964 to Doris Shell who survives. He served with the U.S. Army from 1953 – 1958. He was a retired woodworker.
Surviving are two sons Mike Steveson of Metamora and Willie Steveson of Germany , Four daughters Tracy Degitz of New Haven , Mrs. Louie (Joyce) Shultz of Portland, Mrs. Todd (Jessica) Brown of Ashland, Ky. and Linda Steveson of Germany, Five brothers Dale Steveson of Portland, Fred Steveson of Portland, Dick Steveson of Portland, Tom Steveson of Muncie and Don Steveson of Saratoga, two sisters Mary Ann Rigby of Bryant and Wilma Laramore of Kansas City, Eleven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and three step-great grandchildrenFuneral services will be Sunday at 7:00 P.M. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home. Jeffrey R. McIntire age 50, 355 South Washington Street Pennville died early Sunday morning in Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie . He was born in Muncie September 28, 1959 the son of Gilbert and Lena (Little) McIntire. He had worked for Labors Union 1112 and Homan Farms. He was a 1977 Jay County High School graduate.
Surviving are his mother Lena McIntire of Ridgeville, Four sons Damion McIntire of Portland, Simeon McIntire of Ridgeville, Dustin McIntire of Fishers and Dana McIntire of Portland, one daughter Natasha McIntire of Portland, Fiancé Teresa Squier of Pennville, Three brothers Eric Mcintire of Portland, Clint McIntire of Portland and Nathan McIntire of Montpelier, One sister Vickie Manship of Salem, Thirteen grandchildren

Ruth C. Wellman age 80, 6362 North 850 East Bryant died Saturday evening in Briarwood Manor Nursing Home in Coldwater. She was born in Mercer County , Ohio January 7, 1930 the daughter of Anthony and Ann (Deitch) Weigel. She was married June 30, 1951 to Richard Wellman who survives. She was retired as a cook for Bloomfield Elementary School , member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Alter Rosary Sodality, Rosary Club and graduate of Coldwater High School .Surviving are her husband Richard, Five sons Tom Wellman of Chicago, Ken Wellman of Portland, Ed Wellman of Bryant, Tim Wellman of Decatur and Rick Wellman of Portland, Two daughters Mrs. Dale (Kathleen) Barhorst of Coldwater and Mrs. Kevin (Patricia) Price of Decatur. One brother Walter Weigel of Coldwater, Twenty nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 A.M. in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Fr. David Hoying presiding. Burial will follow in the Holy Trinity Cemetery . Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00 – 8:00 P.M. and Wednesday from 9:00 – 10:00 A.M. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home in Portland . Memorials can be made to the Jay County Cancer Society.

William A. Whitacre age 64, 1365 East 100 South Portland died Friday in Ball Memorial Hospital . He was born in Hartford City October 8, 1945 the son of LeRoy and Mary (Maddox) Whitacre. He was married September 7, 1968 to Alice Bennett who survives. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran. He had worked for Applegates.
Surviving are his wife Alice, his mother Mary McKibben Gunter of Portland, One son Michael Whitacre of Portland, One daughter Tonya Whitacre of Portland, one brother Darrell Derringer of Portland, three sisters Mrs. John (Bobbie) Siegrist of St. Marys, Ohio, Mrs. Randy (Deanna Derringer) Mock of Portland and Caryn Derringer Radzieyewski of Key West, Fl. Four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Joe Whitacre.Funeral services will be Wednesday at 7:00 P.M. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Horsman presiding.
